CIO Edge Mexico – Can you tell us a little bit about your role and your team? As the Head of Digital, Innovation & IT what are your main responsibilities?
JI – I’m accountable for AstraZeneca Mexico’s whole digital strategy and transformation, the digital platforms & their ecosystem, the eCommerce strategy, and the Health Innovation Hub, AstraZeneca’s innovation unit focus on primary care health solutions to support Mexican patients.
CIO Edge Mexico – In 2022 you were named one of the 10 leading CIOs in Mexico and recognized as visionary, compassionate, and results-driven agents of change. What is your personal approach as an IT leader when driving the business forward and setting your organization up for success?
JI – Aligned to AstraZeneca’s values, always placing the patients at the center of every action and solution we develop, to support and help them to have a better life, one of our most important drivers are the digital transformation and innovation, always looking for new ways to promote early diagnose and support the health care ecosystem, in the last year we have been implementing different solutions including AI, deep learning, web-based, education, eCommerce & digital communities to reach that objective.
I’m proud to share that we are one of the most digitalized and innovative pharma companies in Mexico.
CIO Edge Mexico – As CIO how are you collaborating and influencing the organization and leadership team?
JI – I’m currently part of the senior management team, daily looking for new solutions to improve our processes, the way we work, and the way we interact using new technology and innovation, across the organization, working as a cross-functional team to make the best of it.
CIO Edge Mexico – In 2022 again AstraZeneca is positioned as one of The Best Places to Work™️ in Mexico in 2022. As CIO how do you create an internal culture that allows people to thrive and achieve their personal and professional goals?
JI- As the leader of IT, Digital, and Innovation, the work environment is key, one of our biggest tasks is to support the organization and our teams to have the best and support them with solutions and tools for their day-to-day, but that’s not all, culture is one of our most important drivers, so we work together with the other areas to promote diversity & inclusion, sustainability, simplification, optimization, and digital culture, through different initiatives and activities, we work as one AstraZeneca.
CIO Edge Mexico – Which tech trends can you see in the industry and beyond in 2023?
JI – Artificial intelligence & deep learning is going fast, so it’s going to be a key trend in the upcoming years across industries, it’s being used in many different ways, breaking some beliefs and also setting up new ground for us to land and innovate, to look up for new ways to do things, to simplify and to accelerate, but also to support and evolve our processes, platforms and the way we interact with our colleges and patients.
CIO Edge Mexico – When we are talking about AI how this technology is changing the way Health Care is moving forward?
JI – As I mentioned before, AI is moving faster than expected, just a few years ago a lot of processes & procedures were completely manual, but nowadays thanks to AI we can support healthcare professionals & patients in different ways, for example, last year we release an AI tool to support and promote lung cancer early detection, by using AI and deep learning the tool is able to detect abnormal lung nodules, their size (up to 3mm), texture and shape, helping the HCP to identify possible lung cancer patients and take action to confirm diagnose and take different actions.
CIO Edge Mexico – What can the attending delegates expect from your Keynote talk at our CIO Edge Mexico event on the 31st of May?
JI – First of all thanks in advance for attending, we will be discussing how AI is changing the healthcare ecosystem, by offering a different and fastest way to support patients and healthcare professionals, promoting early diagnosis and optimizing procedures, but also how AI and the digitalization have changed the “patient journey”.
