CIO Edge NLD: Could you kindly share your primary responsibilities in your role as Principal Solution Engineer at Kofax?

Jesper: Great question! If you ask my kids what their dad does, they’ll tell you that he’s always talking to people. But I think that my main responsibility is to listen. Listen to our customers, and their challenges, and understand what keeps them up at night. Once I understand them, their challenges, and their concerns, I help them address those issues by leveraging our Kofax Intelligent Automation capabilities. I also lead a team of solution engineers across EMEA focused on Intelligent Automation (Hyperautomation) and I truly enjoy attending and speaking at events like CIO Edge.

CIO Edge NLD: For those who may not be familiar, would you kindly provide an overview of Kofax’s role in assisting enterprise businesses?

Jesper: Kofax has been around for almost 40 years and has become one of the most trusted names in enterprise software. Our Intelligent Automation capabilities help organizations transform information-intensive business processes, reduce manual work and errors, minimize costs and improve customer engagement. We combine AI, Intelligent Document Processing, RPA, process orchestration, mobility, engagement and analytics to address business challenges and deliver compelling results. We can help you mitigate compliance risk and increase competitiveness, growth and profitability.

CIO Edge NLD: What, in your view, are the primary intelligent automation (IA) trends and the key challenges faced by CIOs for the current year?

Jesper: Hyperautomation, Low Code / No Code, leveraging Generative AI the right way and delivering on the promises of AI in general, moving towards microservice architectures.

CIO Edge NLD: What are the leading global digital trends across the financial industry?

Jesper: When we talk about Financial Services, Insurance and Banking today, we see industries that are always in motion, and have shed their old stereotype of being old-fashioned, backward, and slow. These organizations have been at the forefront of the RPA boom of last decade and have reaped its benefits. Now that the limitations of applying RPA as a one-size-fits-all approach are clearly apparent, we see them moving forward to a more holistic approach of Hyperautomation.

CIO Edge NLD: Genuine digital transformation involves working smarter across various sections of an organisation. How can Kofax’s intelligent automation contribute to achieving this goal?

Jesper: We are strong believers in that random acts of automation do not lead to genuine organization-wide digital transformation. That’s one of the drivers that make us lead with a full portfolio of intelligent automation capabilities, which in turn can be consumed throughout the organization. So, plan big, start small.

CIO Edge NLD: How do you envision the future of AI and deep learning machines, considering their rapid rise to prominence in both the business world and popular culture?

Jesper: I’m very optimistic! Kofax has a proven decades-long track record of applying AI in our customers’ most critical business processes. The beauty of today is that platforms like ChatGPT show everyone how they can use AI in their daily lives. But it also raises awareness on where the limitations lie, people are starting to ask questions about privacy, and overall, the understanding and acceptance of AI have skyrocketed. But keep in mind that organizations need to run their business based on -validated business data- not on a guess coming from ChatGPT.

I once asked ChatGPT who Jesper Scherpenhuijsen was, it told me I was the Senior Vice President of Kofax. Apparently, someone forgot to inform me of that ?

The key problem that that example showed was not that ChatGPT was wrong, but it stated it as a fact. And that’s exactly where we as Kofax come in, and I’ll tell you how during my session.

So, the future is bright! We are seeing a tremendous interest in how these new capabilities can work together. Work like tomorrow, today.

CIO Edge NLD: What can the delegates attending your talk at our CIO Edge Netherlands event, on the 9th of November, anticipate and take away from your presentation?

I’ll be using ABN AMRO as an example, talk about their journey towards hyperautomation, their lessons-learned, and how Kofax enabled them to reach that point. I’ll share an outlook towards the future. And tell you exactly how you can start leveraging Generative AI, LLMs, intelligent automation and more so you can outline your own hyperautomation journey. See you there!

CIO Edge NLD: Thank you for your insights, Jesper! We can’t wait to listen to you during the CIO Edge Netherlands event! The Kofax team will be available throughout the event to offer expert advice and be available for 121 meetings and talks at their booth.
